Asam dekanoat adalah asam lemak jenuh. Formulanya adalah CH₃(CH₂)₈COOH. Garam dan ester asam dekanoat disebut dekanoat atau kaprat. Istilah asam kaprat berasal dari bahasa Latin "caper / capra" (kambing) karena aroma yang berkeringat dan tidak menyenangkan dari senyawa ini mengingatkan pada kambing.
