Dalam filsafat agama dan teologi, masalah kejahatan adalah pertanyaan bagaimana kita menjelaskan kejahatan di dunia (tindakan, peristiwa, atau keadaan yang membawa penderitaan, kehilangan, kemiskinan, dan ketidakadilan) jika Tuhan atau dewa-dewi bersifat mahatahu, mahakuasa, dan maha-berbelas kasihan Banyak filsuf mengklaim bahwa keberadaan Tuhan tidaklah cocok dengan dunia yang penuh dengan kejahatan.

David Hume dalam bukunya Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion (1779) mengutip argumen Epikuros:

"Apakah Tuhan berniat mencegah kejahatan, tetapi tidak mampu? Maka Ia tidak mahakuasa. Apakah Ia mampu, tetapi tidak berniat [melakukannya]? Maka ia kejam. Apakah Ia mampu dan berniat? Kalau begitu, dari mana datangnya kejahatan?"
