Bintang ini terdiri dari dua bintang katai tipe K (K-type dwarf) yang saling mengorbit. 61 Cygni adalah salah satu bintang yang menarik untuk diteliti oleh para astronom. Pada tahun 1838, Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel mengukur jarak antara keberadaanya dengan Bumi, dan menghasil angka sekitar 10.4 tahun cahaya, lebih dekat daripada hasil yang diperoleh pada pengujian terakhir (11.4 tahun cahaya).
