Pascamodernisme

Pascamodernisme (atau postmodernisme, posmodernisme, post-mo) adalah gerakan abad akhir ke-20 dalam seni, arsitektur, dan kritik, yang melanjutkan modernisme. Termasuk dalam pascamodernisme adalah interpretasi skeptis terhadap budaya, sastra, seni, filsafat, sejarah, ekonomi, arsitektur, fiksi, dan kritik sastra. Pascamodernisme sering dikaitkan dengan dekonstruksi dan pascastrukturalisme karena penggunaannya sebagai istilah mendapatkan popularitas yang signifikan pada waktu yang sama dengan pascastrukturalisme, yaitu dalam abad kedua puluh.

Salah satu lukisan Banksy di Tembok Tepi Barat, John Watkins Chapman mengibaratkan Pascamodernisme sebagai lukisan yang melampaui gaya impresionisme dari Prancis.

Pascamodernisme adalah paham yang berkembang setelah era modern dengan modernismenya. Pascamodernisme bukanlah paham tunggal atau sebuah teori, tetapi justru memayungi berbagai teori-teori yang bertebaran dan sulit dicari titik temu yang tunggal. Banyak tokoh yang memberikan arti pascamodernisme sebagai kelanjutan dari modernisme. Namun kelanjutan itu menjadi sangat beragam. Bagi Lyotard dan Geldner, pascamodernisme adalah pemutusan secara total dari modernisme. Bagi Derrida, Foucault dan Baudrillard, pascamodernisme adalah bentuk radikal dari kemodernan yang akhirnya "mati sendiri" karena kesulitan menyeragamkan berbagai teori. Bagi David Graffin, pascamodernisme adalah koreksi beberapa aspek dari modernisme. Selain itu, bagi Giddens, pascamodernisme adalah bentuk modernisme yang sudah sadar diri dan menjadi bijak. Yang terakhir, bagi Habermas, pascamodernisme merupakan satu tahap dari modernisme yang belum selesai.

Etimologi Sunting

Berdasarkan asal-usul kata, pascamodernisme, berasal dari bahasa Inggris yang artinya paham (-isme) yang berkembang setelah (pasca) modern. Istilah ini muncul pertama kali pada tahun 1930 pada bidang seni oleh Federico de Onis untuk menunjukkan reaksi dari modernisme. Kemudian pada bidang Sejarah oleh Toyn Bee dalam bukunya Study of History pada tahun 1947. Setelah itu berkembang dalam bidang-bidang lain dan mengusung kritik atas modernisme pada bidang-bidangnya sendiri-sendiri.

Pascamodernisme dibedakan dengan pascamodernitas. Jika pascamodernisme lebih menunjuk pada konsep berpikir, pascamodernitas lebih menunjuk pada situasi dan tata sosial produk teknologi informasi, globalisasi, fragmentasi gaya hidup, konsumerisme yang berlebihan, deregulasi pasar uang dan sarana publik, usangnya negara dan bangsa, serta penggalian kembali inspirasi-inspirasi tradisi. Hal ini secara singkat sebenarnya ingin menghargai faktor lain (tradisi, spiritualitas) yang dihilangkan oleh rasionalisme, strukturalisme, dan sekularisme.

Setidaknya kita melihat dalam bidang kebudayaan yang diajukan Frederic Jameson, bahwa pascamodernisme bukan kritik satu bidang saja, tetapi semua bidang yang termasuk dalam budaya. Ciri pemikiran pada era pascamodern ini adalah pluralitas berpikir dihargai, setiap orang boleh berbicara dengan bebas sesuai pemikirannya. Pascamodernisme menolak arogansi dari setiap teori, sebab setiap teori punya tolak pikir masing-masing dan hal itu berguna.
