Metodologi ekonomi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari metode, umumnya metode ilmiah, yang berhubungan dengan ekonomi, termasuk prinsip tentang pertimbangan ekonomi. Istilah 'metodologi' juga umum meskipun salah dan digunakan sebagai sinonim dari 'metode'.
Masalah-masalah metodologi yang dibahas, termasuk kesamaan dan kemiripan dengan ilmu alam dan ilmu sosial lain, yaitu:
- pengertian ekonomi
- cakupan ilmu ekonomi seperti yang ditetapkan metodenya
- prinsip dasar dan kepentingan operasi teori ekonomi
- individualisme metodologis versus holisme dalam ekonomi
- aspek penyederhanaan asumsi bermanfaat dan prediktif vs. realistis, termasuk pilihan rasional dan peningkatan keuntungan.
- status ekonomi secara ilmiah
- keseimbangan pendekatan secara empiris dan a priori
- batas dan penggunaan metode eksperimental
- analisis metode matematika dan aksiomatik dalam ekonomi
- penulisan dan retorika ekonomi
- analisis teori dan praktik dalam ekonomi kontemporer.
