Tropheryma whipplei, sebelumnya bernama Tropheryma whippelii, adalah bakteri yang menyebabkan penyakit Whipple.
T. whipplei dikategorikan sebagai bakteri Gram-positif Actinobacteriaorganisme biasanya ditemukan juga dalam kategori Gram-negatif sewaktu diberikan warna di Laboratorium. Whipple sendiri mungkin mengamati organisme sebagai struktur berbentuk seperti batang dengan noda perak dalam penelitiannya.
Sejarah penamaan sunting
Bakteri ini tidak diberikan nama sampai pada tahun 1991 sewaktu nama Tropheryma whippelii diusulkan setelah seksi bakteri Genom diurutkan. Penamaan diubah menjadi Tropheryma whipplei pada tahun 2001 (mengoreksi ejaan nama Whipple) ketika organisme disimpan dalam daftar koleksi bakteri.
