Transtheisme mengacu kepada sistem pemikiran atau filsafat agama yang bukan teistik, juga bukan ateis, tetapi di luar keduanya. Istilah ini diciptakan oleh salah satu di antara kedua orang ini, filsuf Paul Tillich atau ahli Indologi Heinrich Zimmer.
Istilah ini baru-baru ini juga diterapkan pada Buddhisme, Advaita Vedanta, dan gerakan Bhakti.

- In published writings, the term appears in 1952 for Tillich and in 1953 for Zimmer. Since the two men were personally acquainted, it is difficult to say which of them coined the term. Note that the term transtheism is avoided by both.
