Latar belakang dan komposisi

Lovato merilis lagu ini sebagai kejutan pada 22 Juni 2023, Lovato menjelaskan asal-usulnya di media sosial: "Sudah satu tahun sejak keputusan Mahkamah Agung mencabut hak konstitusional atas aborsi yang aman, dan meskipun jalan ke depan akan menantang., kita harus terus bersatu dalam memperjuangkan keadilan reproduksi."

Lagu ini dirilis sebagai lagu protes dua hari sebelum peringatan atas satu tahunnya keputusan Mahkamah Agung untuk membatalkan Roe v. Wade. Selama periode satu tahun, laba bersih Lovato dari "Swine" akan disumbangkan ke Dana Keadilan Reproduksi Yayasan Demi Lovato, yang akan disalurkan ke tiga organisasi nirlaba: NARAL Pro-Choice America, Plan C dan National Network of Abortion Funds.

"Swine" digambarkan sebagai lagu pop-punk dan "lagu rock dan nu metal". Billboard menggambarkan lagu ini sebagai "Lovato yang paling marah", dan "dipicu oleh kemarahan yang benar".

Penampilan langsung
