Surveilans penyakit adalah praktik epidemiologi yang memantau penyebaran penyakit. Peran utama pengawasan penyakit adalah untuk memprediksi, mengamati dan meminimalisir hal berbahaya yang disebabkan oleh situasi-situasi wabah, epidemi dan pandemi, serta meningkatkan pengetahuan soal faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap keadaan semacam itu. Bagian utama dari pengawasan penyakit modern adalah praktek pelaporan kasus penyakit.
