Kehidupan awal sunting
Sean Astin terlahir dengan nama Sean Patrick Duke di Santa Monica, California, putra dari aktris Patty Duke. Pada waktu itu, dilaporkan bahwa Desi Arnaz, Jr adalah ayah biologisnya namun pada tahun 1994, ia mengetahui bahwa ayahnya adalah Michael Tell, promotor musik dan penulis yang menyunting dan menerbitkan surat kabar Yahudi The Las Vegas Israelite.
