Nepenthes fusca /nɪˈpɛnθiːz ˈfʌskə/, atau Tumbuhan Berkantong Kehitaman, adalah tumbuhan pemakan serangga tropis yang merupakan tumbuhan endemik Kalimantan. Ia ditemukan di seluruh rentang ketinggian yang luas dan hampir selalu bersifat epifit di alam, terutama tumbuh di hutan berlumut.

Nama spesifik fusca berasal dari kata Latin fuscus, yang berarti "cokelat tua" atau "kehitam-hitaman", dan merujuk pada warna dari kantongnya.

Sejarah botanis sunting

Koleksi pertama yang diketahui dari N. fusca dibuat oleh Frederik Endert pada 12 Oktober 1925, dari Gunung Kemul di Kalimantan Timur, pada ketinggian 1500 m. Ia ditemukan selama suatu ekspediai ke Kalimatan bagian tengah oleh Insitut Riset Hutan dari Bogor (saat itu dikenal sebagai Buitenzorg), di mana Endert juga membuat satu-satunya koleksi yang diketahui dari N. mollis.[note a] Spesimen N. fusca, ditetapkan sebagai Endert 3955, meliputi material bunga jantan dan disimpan di Herbarium Bogoriense (BO), herbarium di Kebun Raya Bogor. Endert menulis mengenai tumbuhan pemakan serangga ini dalam sebuah laporan ekspedisi terperinci tahun 1927, meskipun dia salah mengindentifikasinya sebagai N. veitchii.

Nepenthes fusca secara formal dilaporkan [b] pada 1928 oleh ahli botani Belanda B. H. Danser dalam monografinya yang berkaitan dengan benih Nepenthaceae di Hindia Belanda. Danser mendasarkan deskripsinya hanya pada Endert 3955, tanpa mengutip spesimen lainnya. Dia menulis tentang N. fusca:

Spesies baru ini, beserta dengan N. Veitchii dan N. stenophylla, sangat dekat dengan N. maxima, namun tidak dapat dicampuradukkan dengan salah satu dari spesies-spesies ini. Menurut Endert, ia tumbuh di hutan di atas bukit gunung yang sempit dan berbatu-batu tertutup humus, dan tidak jarang.

Material tipe N. fusca (Endert 3955) mengandung kantong yang tampak seperti pertengahan antara bentuk rendah dan atas yang khas.

Ahli botani Jan Schlauer telah mencatat perbedaan antara spesimen tipe N. fusca dan tumbuhan Sabah yang mengacu pada spesies ini, bahkan interpretasi tumbuhan yang diilustrasikan dalam Nepenthes di Gunung Kinabalu oleh Kurata merupakan N. stenophylla (berbeda dari N. fallax).[c] Matthew Jebb tidak menganggap perbedaan ini cukup signifikan untuk mendapatkan pembedaan pada tingkat spesies. Dia mengemukakan bahwa spesimen tipe terdiri dari kantong bawah dan atas pertengahan yang berlawanan dengan bentuk sebenarnya dari keduanya, membuat mereka tampak tidak tipikal.

Sebagian besar ketidakpastian taksonomi ini berasal dari kenyataan bahwa N. fusca belum dilihat kembali dari lokal tipe dan banyak tumbuhan serupa telah disamakan dengan takson ini. Matthew Jebb dan Martin Cheek mencoba untuk mengatasi kebingungan ini dalam monografi mereka tahun 1997 mereka dengan menafsirkan N. fusca sebagai suatu spesies yang tersebar luas dan bervariasi.
