Publikasi dan sumber informasi

Sejak 1879, National Library of Medicine telah menerbitkan Index Medicus, panduan bulanan untuk artikel di hampir lima ribu jurnal terpilih. Edisi terakhir Indeks Medicus dicetak pada bulan Desember 2004, tetapi informasi ini ada dalam PubMed yang dapat diakses secara bebas, di antara lebih dari lima belas juta referensi dan abstrak artikel jurnal MEDLINE dari tahun 1960-an dan 1.5 juta referensi dari tahun 1950-an.

National Library of Medicine juga menjalankan National Center for Biotechnology Information, yang menyimpan database biologi (salah satunya PubMed) yang dapat diakses secara bebas di Internet melalui mesin pencari Entrez.
