Microcystis aeruginosa adalah spesies cyanobacteria air tawar yang dapat menyebabkan harmful algal bloom.
Racun sunting
M. aeruginosa dapat menghasilkan neurotoksin (lipopolysaccharides-LPS) dan hepatotoksin (mikrosistin). Akibat mikrosistin yang dihasilkan, alga ini menjadi penyebab polusi air minum.
Selain itu, pengaruhnya terhadap jumlah oksigen di air dapat mengakibatkan kematian ikan dan kehidupan air lainnya.
