Legenda atau kanda (serapan dari bahasa Latin: legenda) adalah sebuah genre dari cerita rakyat yang terdiri atas narasi yang menampilkan perbuatan-perbuatan manusia yang diyakini atau dipercayai oleh si pencerita dan pendengarnya sebagai suatu kisah nyata yang pernah terjadi. Narasi dalam genre ini bisa saja menunjukkan nilai-nilai manusia, dan memiliki beberapa mutu tertentu yang membuat ceritanya terdengar seperti nyata. Legenda, untuk peserta aktif dan pasifnya, dapat mencakup mukjizat atau keajaiban. Legenda dapat beralih bentuk dari waktu ke waktu, agar tetap terdengar segar dan penting.

Banyak legenda beroperasi dalam wilayah ketidakpastian, tidak pernah sepenuhnya dipercayai oleh para pencerita dan pendengarnya, tetapi juga tidak pernah mentah-mentah diragukan. Legenda terkadang dibedakan dengan mitos karena menyangkut manusia sebagai karakter utamanya, ketimbang dewa-dewi, dan terkadang legenda juga memiliki semacam dasar sejarah sedangkan mitos umumnya tidak.
