Alfred Marshall (26 Juli 1842 – 13 Juli 1924) adalah seorang ahli ekonomi Inggris yang paling berpengaruh di zamannya. Dia tumbuh di daerah suburban Clapham, London dan dididik di Merchant Taylor's School, Northwood dan St. John's College, Cambridge. Meskipun pada awalnya ia ingin mengikuti jejak ayahnya menjadi rohaniawan, tetapi prestasinya di Universitas Cambridge membuatnya berkarier di jalur akademis. Ia menjadi profesor dalam bidang ekonomi politik pada tahun 1868.
Dia menulis beberapa traktat perdagangan internasional dan masalah proteksionisme. Lalu, pada tahun 1879, ia mengumpulkan makalah-makalah yang pernah dibuatnya dalam satu buku berjudul The Pure Theory of Foreign Trade: The Pure Theory of Domestic Values.
