Dalam taksonomi, Thermoproteus adalah genus dari Thermoproteaceae. Prokariota ini adalah organisme tergantung sulfur termofilik terkait dengan genera Sulfolobus, Pyrodictium dan Desulfurococcus. Mereka autotrof hidrogen sulfur dan dapat tumbuh pada suhu hingga 95 °C.
