Pertempuran Valmy

Pertempuran Valmy adalah pertempuran yang berlangsung pada tanggal 20 September 1792 ketika pasukan Prusia yang dipimpin oleh Adipati Braunschweig mencoba memasuki kota Paris. Jenderal François Kellermann dan Charles Dumouriez menghentikan pergerakan pasukan Prusia di desa Valmy di Champagne-Ardenne. Pertempuran ini merupakan kemenangan pertama Prancis selama perang yang meletus setelah Revolusi Prancis.

Sebelum pertempuran ini meletus, pemerintahan baru di Prancis masih belum teruji, sehingga kemenangan kecil di Valmy menjadi kemenangan psikologis yang besar bagi kaum revolusioner. Bahkan pertempuran ini sempat dianggap sebagai peristiwa yang ajaib dan "kekalahan besar" untuk Prusia. Setelah pertempuran ini berakhir, Konvensi Nasional yang baru terbentuk menjadi terdorong untuk menyatakan pembubaran monarki dan pendirian Republik Prancis Pertama. Kemenangan di Valmy memungkinkan penyebaran revolusi beserta dampaknya yang besar terhadap sejarah Eropa, sehingga pertempuran ini dianggap sebagai salah satu pertempuran terpenting sepanjang masa.
