Perdagangan budak Atlantik dikenal juga sebagai perdagangan budak trans-Atlantik atau perdagangan budak lintas Atlantik terjadi di sepanjang Samudera Atlantik dari abad ke-15 sampai ke-19. Bangsa Portugis merupakan bangsa pertama yang melakukan perdagangan budak Dunia Baru pada abad ke-16. Antara 1418 dan 1470an, bangsa Portugis meluncurkan serangkaian ekspedisi penjelajahan yang mempetakan kembali samudera selatan Portugal, mempiagamkan wilayah-wilayah baru yang salah satu penjelajah sebut sebagai "samudera dimana tidak ada seorang pun yang melayarinya sebelumnya." Pada 1526, bangsa Portugis menyelesaikan perjalanan budak trans-atlantik pertama dari Afrika ke benua Amerika, dan negara-negara lainnya setelahnya. Pemilik kapal menganggap budak karena kargo yang dibawa ke benua Amerika dianggap cepat dan memungkinkan, budak tersebut dijual untuk dipekerjakan di penanaman kopi, tembakau, kokoa, gula dan kapas, pertambangan ems dan perak, ladang padi, industri pembangunan, penebangan kayu untuk perkapalan, menterampilkan buruh, dan sebagai pelayan domestik.
