Kehidupan sunting
Rooker lahir di Jasper, Alabama. Dia memiliki sembilan saudara laki-laki dan perempuan. Orang tuanya bercerai ketika dia berusia 13 tahun, dan dia pindah bersama ibu dan saudara-saudaranya ke Chicago, Illinois, di mana dia bersekolah di SMA Wells Community Academy dan belajar di Goodman School of Drama di Universitas DePaul University.
Rooker saat ini tinggal di California dan menikah dengan Margot Rooker. Mereka menikah pada 22 Juni 1979, dan memiliki dua putri. Dia berlatih karate gaya Kyokushin.
