Lukas Haas lahir di West Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, dan merupakan putra dari pasangan Berthold Haas, seorang seniman, dan Emily Tracy, seorang penulis. Ibunya merupakan penduduk asli Texas dan ayahnya merupakan imigran Jerman. Ia memiliki saudara kembar bernama Simon Jakoway Haas dan Nikolai Johannes Haas di mana mereka berdua merupakan seorang desainer.
