Lenape

Lenape (/ləˈnɑːpi/) adalah suku Pribumi Amerika di Kanada dan Amerika Serikat. Mereka juga disebut Indian Delaware karena tanah mereka dulunya berada di sepanjang Sungai Delaware. Akibat intervensi pasca Perang Revolusi Amerika Serikat dan pengusiran Indian dari Amerika Serikat timur, suku utamanya sekarang menetap di Ontario (Kanada), Wisconsin, dan Oklahoma. Di Kanada, mereka menjadi bagian dari Munsee-Delaware Nation 1, Moravian of the Thames First Nation, dan Delaware of Six Nations. Di Amerika Serikat, mereka terbagi menjadi tiga suku resmi, yaitu Bangsa Delaware dan Suku Indian Delaware, keduanya di Oklahoma, dan Komunitas Stockbridge-Munsee di Wisconsin. Indian Pegunungan Ramapough dan Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape mengaku sebagai keturunan Lenape dan diakui sebagai suku oleh negara bagian New Jersey.

Sebagian besar suku Lenape diusir dari tanah mereka akibat perluasan koloni Eropa pada abad ke-18. Pemerintahan Lenape melemah akibat datangnya penyakit baru seperti cacar dan penindasan yang dilakukan orang Eropa. Aktivitas Iroquois kadang turut membantu proses ini. Orang-orang Lenape yang selamat membentuk kembali pemerintahan dan pindah ke barat di cekungan hulu Sungai Ohio. Perang Revolusi Amerika Seriakt dan kemerdekaan A.S. terus mendesak mereka jauh ke barat. Pada tahun 1860-an, pemerintah Amerika Serikat mengirim sejumlah besar anggota suku Lenape yang tersisa di Amerika Serikat Timur ke Teritori Oklahoma sesuai kebijakan pengusiran Indian. Pada abad ke-21, banyak orang Lenape yang tinggal di negara bagian Oklahoma, Kansas, Wisconsin, Ontario (Kanada), dan tanah lama mereka.
