Konstitusi Romawi

Konstitusi Romawi merupakan sebuah set tak tertulis dari paduan dan prinsip yang disahkan melalui petinggi. Konstitusi Romawi bersifat tak formal atau bahkan resmi, kebanyakan tak tertulis dan terlibat secara konstan. Memiliki karakteristik tersebut, konstitusi tersebut lebih seperti sistem hukum umum Inggris ketimbang hukum statuori seperti halnya Konstitusi Amerika Serikat, bahkan pada evolusi konstitusi tahun sepanjang tahun sering kali diarahkan oleh pengesahan hukum-hukum baru dan penarikkan hukum-hukum lama.

Konsep-konsep yang dimulai dalam konstitusi Romawi terdapat dalam kedua bentuk pemerintahan sampai saat ini. Contoh-contohnya meliputi cek dan keseimbangan, pemisahan kekuasaan, veto, filibuster, persyaratan kuorum, batas masa jabatan, pemakzulan, dan pemilihan-pemilihan yang giat dijadwalkan.

Sepanjang tahun, konstitusi Romawi terus berubah. Pada 573 SM, Konstitusi Kerajaan Romawi digantikan oleh Konstitusi Republik Romawi. Pada 27 SM, Konstitusi Republik Romawi digantikan oleh Konstitusi Kekaisaran Romawi. Pada tahun 300 Masehi, Konstitusi Kekaisaran Romawi digantikan oleh Konstitusi Kekaisaran Romawi Akhir. Namun, perubahan yang sebenarnya terjadi secara bertahap. Secara bersamaan, empat konstitusi tersebut membentuk empat hikayat dalam evolusi berkelanjutan dari satu konstitusi master.
