Didirikan sebagai Keuskupan Newark pada tanggal 29 Juli 1853, memisahkan diri dari Keuskupan Agung New York dan Keuskupan Philadelphia
Ditingkatkan menjadi Keuskupan Agung Newark pada tanggal 10 Desember 1937
