Lahir di Ferrara dengan nama Giuseppina Greci, ia adalah putri dari jurnalis dan penulis televisi Luigi. Pada 1956, di usia lima belas tahun, Greci masuk Akademi Seni Drama Nasional Silvio D'Amico; setelah dua tahun, ia meninggalkan Akademi tersebut untuk debut panggung.

Greci membuat debut filmnya pada 1959, memerankan Bunda Maria dalam Ben-Hur karya William Wyler.
