Biografi sunting

Setelah bersekolah di Lycée Louis-le-Grand, Villani diterima di École normale supérieure di Paris dan belajar di sana dari tahun 1992 sampai 1996. Ia kemudian diangkat sebagai asisten profesor di sekolah yang sama. Ia menerima gelar doktor di Universitas Paris Dauphine pada tahun 1998, di bawah pengawasan Pierre-Louis Lions, dan menjadi profesor di École normale supérieure de Lyon pada tahun 2000.
