Arthur C. Clarke

Sir Arthur Charles Clarke (Somerset, Inggris, 16 Desember 1917 - Kolombo, Sri Lanka, 19 Maret 2008) adalah seorang penulis dan penemu berkebangsaan Britania Raya. Clarke paling terkenal melalui novel fiksi ilmiahnya 2001: A Space Odyssey. Selama beberapa masa dia pernah dianggap sebagai salah satu dari "Tiga Besar" dalam dunia fiksi ilmiah, bersama dengan Robert A. Heinlein dan Isaac Asimov.

2001: A Space Odyssey ditulis bersamaan dengan versi filmnya yang disutradarai Stanley Kubrick. Film tersebut memperoleh inspirasi dasar dari cerita pendek Clarke berjudul The Sentinel, namun kemudian dibuatkan novelnya sendiri saat Clarke berkolaborasi dalam menulis naskah dengan Kubrick.

Clarke telah menulis banyak buku lainnya, termasuk Rendezvous with Rama dan beberapa lanjutan dari 2001, serta beberapa cerita pendek.

Ada sebuah asteroid yang dinamakan berdasarkan namanya, 4923 Clarke, serta sejenis spesies dinosaurus, Serendipaceratops arthurcclarkei, yang ditemukan di Inverloch, Australia.

Terakhir dia tinggal di Sri Lanka, dan pada Desember 2004 dia berhasil selamat dari gempa bumi Samudra Hindia 2004.
